Over one hundred and fourty talented young people participate in the Tallahassee Symphony Youth Orchestra program. The goals of the youth orchestra are to foster enjoyment of music and develop qualities of responsibility, self-discipline and self-confidence. Students are encouraged to participate in local, state and national youth music activities. The Tallahassee Symphony Youth Orchestra is an important investment in the artistic and cultural education of young people of Tallahassee.

Now in its sixth season, the Youth Orchestra offers varied musucal experiences. In addition to the orchestral playing, students receive sectional coaching and study chamber ensemble literature. Senior Orchestra selections for the 1995-1996 season include Procession of the Sardar by M. Ippolitov-Ivanov, Festique by M. L.
